Over Supination

What is Over Supination?

Over supination is far less common than over pronation and is associated with a high arch foot type which is unable to absorb shock and adapt to the ground when the foot initially contacts the floor.

Symptoms

Because shock absorption is reduced, stresses normally absorbed by the feet are transferred up the lower limb. Symptoms are particularly common in runners and include associated conditions such as plantar fasciitis, shin splintsand Achilles tendonitis.

Treatments

Functional Foot Orthotics will improve foot biomechanics. Often the inclusion of a slight heel elevation is helpful in accommodating the natural heel/sole differential associated with this foot type and the use of specifically placed shock absorbent materials may be beneficial
