Heel Spur

What is a Heel Spur?

Ossification (the laying of bone) in the plantar fascia which is the strong sheet of connective tissue running underneath the foot. This occurs at its attachment to the heel bone and is caused by increased stress on the tendon from conditions such as over pronation.

Symptoms

Pain under the base of the heel usually towards the inner border. The area may also be tender to touch.

Treatments

Gel heel pads to cushion the affected area.

Functional Foot Orthotics to improve foot biomechanics and reduce the stresses placed on the plantar fascia at its attachment to the heel.
