Knee Ankle Foot Orthosis (KAFO)

What is it?

Separate thigh and ankle foot shells which are connected by jointed metal struts, usually one at each side of the leg or if using carbon fibre on one side only. The thigh and calf sections are secured with velcro straps. The exact construction will be dependent on the condition being treated.

What does it do?

Provides controlling forces to the foot, ankle and knee to enable walking on an otherwise unstable limb.
