Common Foot & Ankle

Carbon Fibre AFO

What is it?

A carbon fibre shell extending from the upper calf to underneath the foot. It may extend to the ball of the foot (3/4 footplate) or to the end of the foot (full footplate). The calf section is secured with a velcro strap. Due to the properties of the carbon fibre, the shape of the shell can be much more varied than with a thermoplastic AFO.

What does it do?

It applies forces to control and stabilise the ankle foot complex and to lift the foot to provide clearance when the leg swings through. Due to the extremely high strength to weight ratio it is able to provide significant control whilst being very lightweight and using a minimal (very reduced) trimline.

What does it cost?

£300.00 – £550.00
