Fractured Neck of Femur
What is it?
An external trauma (bodily wound or shock produced by a sudden physical injury) is the most common cause. The trauma may be due to a fall or involvement in a road traffic accident etc. The injury cause a break in the femoral neck which is the part of the femur (thigh bone) joining the head (ball shaped top) to the shaft (the long part of the thigh). People who suffer from weakened bone structure e.g. women with osteoporosis can be more susceptible to this type of injury.
