What is it?

Comprises a rigid posterior (back) and sometimes also anterior (front) panel placed within a material encircling support. The brace fastens at the front with velcro straps and may include a tensioning system to increase the posterior supporting force.

What does it do?

It provides a moderate to significant controlling/immobilising force to the middle and lower portions of the back.
