What is it?

A thermoplastic shell which encompasses the posterior (back) third of the calf and extends from the upper calf to underneath the foot. The shell tapers to the ankle to give flexibility in this area. The footpiece may extend to the ball of the foot (3/4 footplate) or the end of the foot (full footplate). The calf section is secured with a velcro strap.

What does it do?

The AFO fits within the wearers own footwear and provides a lifting force to the foot to allow it to clear the floor when the leg swings through. It is not suitable for all drop foot conditions.
