What is it?
An external trauma (bodily injury or wound caused by an outside factor) is the most common cause. The trauma may be due to a fall or involvement in a road traffic accident etc. The injury cause a break in the femoral neck which is the part of the femur (thigh bone) joining the head (ball shaped top) to the shaft (the long part of the thigh). People who suffer from weakened bone structure e.g. women with osteoporosis can be more susceptible to this type of injury.
Symptoms
There is usually severe pain at the hip and the injured leg will appear shorter and the foot will be turned out.
Treatment
Following medical treatment to address the injury:
• Raised shoe adaptation to address any resulting leg length discrepancy.
